Mum’s Final Words

This is what Mum wrote as her final words to be read at her funeral. Today marks two years from the day she died.

“Mum – because of you, I became the woman I was, and I thank you from the bottom of my heart for this. Because of you I have the most wonderful memories of my childhood, from the post office parties to big family holidays camping or caravanning in Bognor or Devon or Cornwall. The Sundays spent at Chertsey with the dinghies and picnics. I remember BP kids parties and the club, fireworks on Clapham Common with Auntie Julie and Uncle Jim, And nights at the Odeon with Aunt Joan flashing her light and Uncle Eddie telling us to shhhh and then singing ‘Skimpy the Skeleton’ on the way home. Weekends spent with Uncle Tony and that huge bend on the way to his house.

I have one word to say to my darling bruv Mike, I love you and you’ll know what I mean when I say remember TRIPE –  but you’re forgiven. (When I was little he was told he had to hold my hand coming home from school, but if I wouldn’t, he’d force me to look at the tripe in the butcher shop).

James and Rosie – I am so, so proud of you both and how you have faced all the issues in your lives. I’m so happy that you have both found careers that you love and you both have fabulous life partners –  Cat, Sam, I’m watching you!

Uncle Eddie Geary – I love you so much – hard as a grizzly bear and soft as a lump of butter when it comes to your family.

Caroline – 45 years, what is there to say, Love you bird.

Gilly – I love you girl, my giggling partner – look after your brother for me.

Last but not least, Clifford – We’ve had our ups and downs and bumps along the way – but I wouldn’t change it for the world. Over these past few months, you have been my rock and I would not have coped without you, I love you so much, keep me close.

As for the rest of you, you’re so precious and loved –  please look after my lot and yourselves, Love to you all, I’ll see you later – I’ve got a meeting to get to with my two Dads, my grandparents, and my baby girl.

See the pyramids along the Nile, watch the sun rise on a tropical isle, just remember darling all the while, you belong to me…”
